About the Artist
My name is Mike Stachowski, and I live in West Hills, California, in the northern part of Los Angeles County. Over the years, I’ve experimented with various media, and I wasn’t particularly very good at any of them. But when I started working with metal, something clicked. It’s the medium I feel most creatively connected to.
I often wonder what compels me to spend countless hours creating these objects. Looking back, I think I’ve always been searching for something extraordinary, something magical, that hints at a reality beyond the dense, Newtonian world we see all around us.
I found a great sense of wonder when I began exploring astronomy, physics, biology, and the origins of everything. The deeper I went, the more I came to a realization shared by many: everything is interconnected. There is no actual separation. As someone once said, we are all connected, to each other, biologically; to the Earth, chemically; and to the rest of the universe, atomically.
There’s no need to believe in anything; you can know it. You can witness the magic all around us. That insight leaves me in a state of beautiful awe, one that words can’t quite capture. My sculptures are an attempt to express that awe.
